I have not heard or seen m-sand recommended for plastering. But, practically I have done it. I am a civil engineer working in Andhra Pradesh, India. This was during the year 2012.

The specific gravity is 2.63 for M-sand and 2.67 for river sand. Bulk density of M-sand and river sand are 15.1 and 14.5 KN/m3 respectively. Bulk density of M-sand is marginally higher than that of river sand. The pH of M-sand and river sand is 10.11 and 8.66 respectively.

Direct use of M-(manufactured) sand is little costlier. Hence we use blending with Crushed Sand. In Pune we are using it. However it needs to blend with crushed +manufactured sand in certain proportion, to obtain required sieve analysis as per IS code. And also need to add Shrinkage proof additives. You may also add Fly ash as additional blending.

Jan 31, 2014 · Which explains why when we order masonry sand on a jobsite sometimes it’s a nice mix of coarse and fine sand, perfect for a base coat, other times it’s almost 100% fine sand. Worst of all, masonry sand can be 99% rather fine, but with just a few pebbles, making it useless for fine finish coats.
